In California, the only successfull Anti-Monopolist candidate was Newton Booth, a former Republican Governor who was elected to the US Senate in 1873. Only one other membe of Congress; Senator Benjamin Franklin Shively, held office as an Anti-Monopolist. John Bidwell ran for Governor in 1875 as a member of the Anti-Monopolist party (although his official ballot designation was "Independent").
