Socialist Labor

Website: http://www.slp.org

According to the Socialist Labor Party website, the "SLP is the original party of socialism in America" and dates back to its creation as the Socialist Democratic Workingman's Party (Workingmen's Party) in 1876. A year later, at a meeting in Newark, New Jersey, the party was renamed, and has kept that name since.

Although it never received 'qualified' status from the California Secretary of State's office, the SLP has been the most active of the Socialist parties in California since 1950, with a total of six candidates receiving significant numbers of votes. California plays an important role in the SLP, hosting both the National Office (Mountain View, CA.), as well as two of the eighteen local organizations nationwide (Sunnyvale and Fresno).
