  • NOTABLE HISTORY: Allen was the first female Speaker in California history. 
  • In 1995, Allen voted to caucus with the Democratic Party, gaining the title of Speaker, but costing the Republicans control of the Assembly. 
  • In 1995, Allen was the target of an attempted recall led by Edward R. Fafara and 59 others. The recall qualified for the ballot and succeeded (65.19% in favor; 34.81% opposed).
  • Ron Herbertson (son of Doris Allen) married Carrie (daughter of H.L. Richardson)
