  • Supreme Court Decision: In May 1999, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that a law that Mike Thompson had jockeyed, SB 485 (1992), was unconstitutional. The law, which limited welfare benefits available to new California residents, was found to violate the fourteenth Amendment. Although the bill was introduced by Leroy F. Greene, he was later removed as author and Thompson ran the bill. (Saenz v. Roe, 526 U.S. 489)
