  • Chappie was appointed to the Board of Supervisors in 1950 by Governor Earl Warren and in 1988 by Governor George Deukmejian.
  • In his first two years in the legislature, Chappie drove 100,000 miles to visit the 11 counties in his district.
  • Started his career in the military as a private and ended it as a captain.
  • "He is known throughout El Dorado County as a man who is not afraid to state his position and one who is willing to fight for it."
  • PLACENAME: SCR 139 (2014; Ted Gaines) would have designated a portion of Highway 193 in El Dorado County as the Eugene “Gene” Chappie Memorial Highway. The resolution died at the Assembly Desk.
