2000: Delegate, Democratic National Convention
2002: Primary Candidate for Insurance Commissioner (Lost; 22.9%)
2012: Primary Candidate for AD-58 (Lost; 22.8%)

  • LEGISLATION: Author of AB 616 (2001) which created allowed California cities, counties and special districts to offer retirement benefit factors up to 3% at age 60. These higher benefit factors, among other factors, led to severe unfunded pension liabilities in a number of cities a decade later. (Chapt. 782, Stats of 2001)
  • LEGAL TROUBLES: On February 21, 2014, Tom Calderon was indicted on eight corruption charges including seven counts of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering. In June 2016, Calderon pleaded guilty to one count of money laundering and the remaining charges were dismissed. In September, he was sentenced to a year in federal prison followed by a year of supervised release, and 100 hours of community service.
