Henry Lambert Ford
Born: 1822
Military Service: ARMY, Mexican Army (Micheltorena War of 1844), California Republic (Bear Flag Revolt)
Died: July 2, 1860 at Nome Cult [now Covelo], CA

  • THE FLAG: Ford was one of the four people who designed and sewed the first "Bear Flag" in 1846 that became the California state flag.
  • The first California battle of the Mexican-American War occured at the Battle of Olompali on June 24, 1846. In the battle, Ford led 20 California Republic militia against 50 Mexican soldiers who had been sent to recapture Sonoma and end the Bear Flag Revolt.
  • Ford died after accidentally shooting himself when climbing onto his horse. [Source:]
