Winslow Smith Pierce
Born: May 3, 1819 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts
Married: Gorgiana D. Moore (m. 1847, d. 1854), Jane Hendricks (m. 1855, d. 1865), Anna Hendricks (m. 1867, d. 1887)
Children: Virginia C., John H., and Winslow Shelby
Family: Brother in law of Vice President Thomas A. Hendricks
Family: His wives were cousins of Secretary of State William C. Hendricks
Died: July 29, 1888 in Brooklyn, New York


  • Jane and Anna Hendricks, Pierce's second and third wives, were sisters.
  • Jane and Anna were also sisters of Thomas Andrews Hendricks, served as Governor of Indiana (1873-1877), in the US House of Representatives (1851-1855), in the US Senate (1863-1869), received 42 votes in the Electoral College in 1872 (against Grant) after the Democratic nominee died shortly after the election, as Democratic nominee for Vice President in 1876 (winning the popular vote but losing by one vote in the Electoral College), and as Vice President under Cleveland (1885). They were also neices of William Hendricks a US Senator (1825-1837) and Governor of Indiana (1822-1825)
