Candidate Biography:

Selden J. Finney
Born: 1825 in New York
Died: July 27, 1875 in San Mateo County, CA

  • Alexander D. Bell, a journalist for the Post, was expelled from his desk in the State Senate Chambers after publishing a report that Senator Finney had accepted a bribe. It was later determined that the Bell report was just based on a rumor, and the expulsion was reconsidered.
