Raul Justo Bocanegra
Born: July 13, 1971 in Los Angeles, CA

Previous: Consultant, Assembly Appropriations Committee
2000s: Senior Aide, Los Angeles City Council President Alex Padilla
2011-2012: Chief of Staff, Assemblyman Felipe Fuentes
2017: Resigned from the State Assembly on November 27.

  • First-Term Bills: During his time in the Legislature, Bocanegra introduced 43 regular session bills, of which 19 were signed into law.
  • CLOSE CONTEST: Patty Lopez narrowly won the 2014 General election when she defeated Bocanegra by 466 votes (1.0%). On election night, Bocanegra trailed Patty Lopez by 182 votes, which closed to 32 votes by November 7th.
  • An incumbent who lost to a member of their own party (in 2014).
  • On November 20, 2017, following accusations from six women that he had sexually harassed them, Bocanegra announced that “I have made the decision to resign from the State Assembly, effective September 1, 2018, and immediately resign my leadership position. I am also suspending my campaign and will not run for re-election.” He resigned on November 27th.
