1850: Candidate for Judge, Eighth Judicial District (Lost)
1852: Primary Candidate for CD-AL (Lost)
1853-1857: Justice, Ninth Judicial District
1855: Candidate for U.S. Senator (Lost)
1859: Pall Bearer, Funeral of US Senator David C. Broderick

  • ON THE BALLOT TWICE: It appears that in the 1850 election, McCorkle was elected to both the State Assembly (at the time, elected by county) and US House of Representatives (then a statewide election).
  • DUEL: On June 1, 1853, McCorkle fought a duel (rifles at thirty yards) against U.S. Senator William M. Gwin. Neither party was injured but a donkey was killed. Source: William M. Gwin
