Candidate Biography:

George Whitfield Crane
Born: December 23, 1827 in Richmond, Virginia
Married: Maria Concepcion
Children: William, Virginia, Lydia, and Lilly
Military Service: ARMY (Mexican War)
Died: November 12, 1868 in San Juan Bautista, CA

  • In History of Political Conventions, Davis lists Crane's middle name as Wright and places his death in Monterey, which may be explained because San Benito County (where San Juan Bautista is located) was still part of Monterey County until 1874.
