Universal

Kirby HensleyMembers of the Legislature: 0
Highest Office Won: None
Founded: 1963 in Berkeley, CA.

Gabriel Green, a UFO "enthusiast" ran for President in 1960 as the Universal or "Flying Saucer" Party. Three years later, the Universal Party was 're-founded' in 1963 in the activist community of Berkeley. The party's founder, Rev. Kirby Hensley, is also the founder of the more well-known Univeral Life Church, which has become famous in recent years for its free online ordination of clergy. Interestingly, the ULC was founded in Modesto in 1962, just a year before the Universal Party. Hensley was the partys nominee for President in 1964 and 1968, but performed very poorly in the polls. The combined votes for the two races totalled less than 200 votes. In 1972, Gabriel Green ran for President again, and receiving very few votes, the party dissolved.
