1913-1921: State Superintendent of Weights and Measures
1956: Resigned as Treasurer on October 31.

  • The body of Virginia Johnson, daughter of the Treasurer, was found soaked in kerosene and set on fire in a garage near her home in Sacramento on May 28, 1934. Although police determined that it was a suicide, her father remained convinced that she had been killed by a "murderous fiend".
