1850: Resigned from the State Assembly on February 9.

  • QUOTABLE: Upon his acceptance of the Speakership in 1849, White noted that "A mighty duty is yours to perform, and upon you rests a responsibility of no ordinary character. There are laws to enact, and interests to regulate, which require the exactest discrimination, the soundest judgment, and the utmost mercy of legislative discretion." He resigned two months later.
