- LEGAL TROUBLES: In 1989, Anderson served 35 days in jail for assaulting Mendocino County Superintendent of Schools James Spence after he allegedly called Anderson "a third-rate McCarthyite." [SF Chronicle (1/12/1990)]. In 1996, he spent 14 days in solitary confinement at the Mendocino County Jail on charges that he was in contempt-of-court for refusing to surrender a the original copy of a letter that he had.
