  • His son Rudy, an Army Specialist, was killed in action in Afghanistan on March 19, 2011.
  • CLOSE CONTEST: The day after the 2018 General Election, Acosta led Smith by 1576 votes. The following day, his lead dropped to 1222 which closed to 257 votes on November 9th. On November 13th, Smith pulled ahead and gained a lead of 1718 votes. By November 23rd, Acosta trailed by 4418 votes.
