- CLOSE CONTEST: The day after the 2018 General Election, Acosta led Smith by 1576 votes. The following day, his lead dropped to 1222 which closed to 257 votes on November 9th. On November 13th, Smith pulled ahead and gained a lead of 1718 votes. By November 23rd, Acosta trailed by 4418 votes.
- Legislative History: Smith is the first California legislator to be born in Germany in 83 years (since Assemblyman Frederick Peterson, who served 1933-1936).
- CLOSE CONTEST: At the end of Election Night 2020, Christy Smith led Garcia by 7,369 votes. A day later, her lead was 1,722 votes. On November 5th, the vote count put Garcia ahead by 265 votes. On November 9th, Smith took a 1,287 vote lead. On November 10th, Garcia retook the lead by 159 votes. On November 12th, Garcia's lead grew to 219 votes but the following day it dropped to 104 votes.
