1853-1854: County Treasurer,‎ San Joaquin County
1861: Resigned as Controller on November 20.
1885-1890: Assistant U. S. Treasurer, San Francisco

  • Brooks resigned as Controller to join the Confederate Army during the Civil War. He joined "Terry's Cavalry Regiment" in Texas, which was led by Colonel David S. Terry.
