Died: December 31, 1867 in San Francisco, CA

 

  • HIGH RANK: A brevetted Brigadier General of United States Volunteers, his military assignments included "Commander of the District of California" in 1865.
  • SUICIDE: McGarry killed himself by cutting his throat with a knife in his room at the Occidental Hotel in San Francisco.
