  • According to Wikipedia, Mary Niles was a first-cousin of Searls before becoming his wife.
  • His second-cousin (and brother-in-law) Addison Niles, was an Associate Justice on the California Supreme Court during the period of 1872-1880.
  • NOTABLE ATTORNEY: Oscar T. Shuck's first edition of The Bench and Bar of California (1887) uses twelve of the thirteen chapters to relate the biography of a notable California attorney. Searles is one of the twelve.
