1845-1846: United States Consul to the Island of Hawaii
1846: Editor, The Sandwich Island News (Hawaii)
1852: Abell leased Santa Cruz Island (off Santa Barbara) from the Department of the Interior for 1 year.
1857-1860: President, Society of California Pioneers

  • Abell died in 1890 "due to a general breeaking up of the constitution from old age."
  • PUBLISHED: Abell wrote Life of John Tyler, a volume published by Harper & Brothers in 1843.
