Died: December 11, 1895 in Martinez, CA

1851-1857: Sheriff, Solano County
1884-1888: Warden, San Quentin Prison

• In the Mexican War, Shirley served under General Stoneman (who later became California Governor)
• Family Ties: His wives were sisters.
