Appointment Election
Appointment to fill the vacancy created by the failure of James W. Mandeville to take the office of State Controller following his appointment as U.S. Surveyor General. Appointment made by Governor John B. Weller. The State Senate confirmed, but due to "some doubts expressed in regard to the regularity of the appointment", the Governor reappointed Melony in April.
