It is, of course, ridiculously early a reasonable time to be looking at the 2024 elections, and yet here we are. Candidates are already lining up for seats that we vacated due to term limits or candidates seeking other offices. The next general election will select replacements for the first of the Term Limits 2.0 officeholders who served their full twelve years in the legislature. That, in turn, is causing some legislators to move from the Assembly to the Senate.
In the 2024 general election, it appears that California voters will elect a new US Senator, 4-6 new Members of Congress, 10-12 new State Senators, and 16-18 new Assemblymembers.
Remember that nothing is final yet. It's only Wednesday, September 27, 2023 so candidates have still got 47 days left before the start of filing.
● 47 days until the Start of the Nomination Period (11/13)
● 72 days until the End of the Nomination Period (12/8)
● 77 days until the end of the Declaration of Candidacy Extension Period if Incumbent Does Not File (12/13) - Currently US Senate, CD12, CD30, CD31, CD47, SD29, SD37, AD01, AD06, AD15, AD44, AD50, AD52, AD54, AD58, and AD79.
Key:
BOLD = incumbent seeking reelection
CROSSED = incumbent not seeking reelection / withdrawn candidates
Regular = declared candidate
Italic = Potential/rumored candidate
