Socialist

Website: http://sp-usa.org

Founded: 1901
Highest Office: Congress (1920-1924)
Members of State Legislature: Four

The Socialist Party of America was first organized in 1901, and the California affiliate "The Socialist Party" was one of the original five political parties that qualified to hold primary elections in California. The party remained qualified until 1938, and since then, only one socialist candidate has appeared on the ballot.

The Bay Area Socialist Party website suggested that the Socialist party currently uses its ties with the Peace and Freedom Party to place candidates on the ballot; "For decades, the Socialist Party of California has maintained a close working relationship with the Peace and Freedom Party where many SP members are dual member."
