Candidate Biography:

John C. Hill
Born: February 24, 1821 in New York
Died: October 10, 1887 in California

  • The book History of Political Conventions in California lists Hill's death as having happened on May 7, 1886 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. However, data at ancestryinstitution.com indicates that the "John Hills" who died in May 1886 was born on January 14, 1851 (which would have made him nine years old at the start of his session in the state legislature (1861). The Senate Journal for the 1861 Session only refers to Hill as "Hill."
