  • Legislative Altercation: A late-night bar fight (at the Golden Eagle Hotel Saloon) the last week of the 1870 Legislative Session developed after an Assembly attache made a comment "that Assemblyman Michael Hayes resented." It escalated to the point that McMillen drew a knife, and the Barkeeper was cut while trying to disarm Assemblyman McMillen.
