Candidate Biography:

Died: June 27, 1900?

Assemblyman James G. Gallagher (of San Francisco) in 1892 does not appear to have been the same person as 1900s San Francisco Supervisor James L. Gallagher (although they may have been related). James L.'s biography is below:

James L. Gallagher
1905-1907: Member, San Francisco County Board of Supervisors*
1907: Acting Mayor, City of San Francisco

  • Gallagher fled the country to avoid being called to testify in the corruption trial against Abe Ruef.
  • Gallagher was appointed acting Mayor by the Board of Supervisors following Mayor Eugene Schmitz's arrest on felony corruption charges.
