  • Hardy was one of the first four students at the California College in 1866, which became the University of California in 1868. As of 1923, the University's alumni magazine considered him the oldest alumnus of the University and noted that he led the procession of alumni at the May 16, 1923 commencement. At the 1926 Commencement, the Alumni Association presented Hardy with honorary membership (the first time that had ever been done).
