1851: Resigned from the State Senate on January 11.
1850s: Member, Los Angeles Common Council
1853-1857: Captain, Los Angeles Rangers*

 

  • Hope is often cited as the having served as Los Angeles County Sheriff in the 1850s. He was actually the commander of a State Militia unit that provided law enforcement for the county.
