• As an Alameda County Superior Court Judge, it was McKibben who, in 1980, presided over the trial of Eldridge Cleaver for the deaths of three Oakland Police Officers in a 1968 shoot-out.
• As an Alameda County Superior Court Judge, it was McKibben who, in 1989, presided over the trial of Huey P. Newton for embezzling state funds that were to be spent to run an Oakland school.
• As a visiting Judge, McKibben presided over the 1999 trial of Kevin "Big Kev" Robinson, who pled no contest to dynamiting of the Vallejo courthouse in 1997.
