  • There appears to be some disagreement about his first name. In the 1924 California Blue Book, his first name is written as "Ed. P. Sample" which some sources (notably articles in the San Bernardino Sun and Riverside Daily Press) thought was short for "Edward". A local newspaper, Coronado Eagle (within his distrct), used "Edwin".
