  • In 1895, following the end of Stephen M. White's term as U.S. Senator, Gesford was a nominee to take that seat. He received ten votes in the first round of voting (top candidate) and 19 votes in the second (tied for third place). No candidate having been selected, the seat remained empty from March 1899 to February 1900.
