  • 1861: Laspeyre served as one of two 'seconds' for Daniel Showalter in his duel with Charles W. Piercy. Piercy died after being shot in the duel.
  • 1861: "Laspeyre was called by the Hon. John Conness, on the floor of the house, a dirty dog, and he flung an inkstand at his head. No challenge followed."
