Edward Power Colgan

Married: Mary Ellen Smith (in 1880)
Children: Edna, Evelyn, Ralph, and Helen
Died (in office): November 20, 1906 in San Francisco, CA

  • It was interesting to learn that of his five siblings, two were named after US Presidents; Abraham Lincoln Colgan (1866-1924) and George Washington Colgan (1869-1951).
  • There was some minor confusion that came from Charles M. Coglan (Clerk of the State Board of Equalization) died on July 13, 1905 and Edward P. Colgan (Controller and Ex-Officio Member of the State Board of Equalization) died on November 20, 1906.
  • OBITUARY: From his obituary in the Sacramento Bee; "The lamp which guided the feet of Edward Colgan was the lamp of scrupulous honesty. In the discharge of his duties he knew no other guide than that of absolute and unflinching integrity." (11/21/1906)
